Autism

 In 2024, recognizing the need for timely autism diagnosis and initiation of therapy, Dr.
Cook gained her certification as an Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist. At,
this time she offers no wait list appointments to assess and diagnose children with
suspected autism. Dr. Cook will provide appropriate referrals to those that qualify and
provide resources for children that may not meet diagnostic criteria for autism but
continue to require specialized services.

An autism evaluation and diagnosis will require at least three visits. The first visit will consist of a comprehensive history including birth, development and medical history. The second visit will include objective screening tools for Autism Spectrum Disorder and observation of your child in an age appropriate environment. The third visit will be a thorough discussion of  the assessments. If your child qualifies for a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder, referrals will be made to a treatment team which may or may not include Applied Behavior Analysts, Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists, Physical Therapists and Child Therapists/Counselors/social Workers. Dr. Cook will also prescribe appropriate school accommodations. Implementation accommodations may require an assessment by your local school district. Referrals will be made to appropriate professionals even if your child does not qualify for an Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis.

Dr. Cook's assessment will include screening for other common diagnoses that are associated with  Autism Spectrum Disorder. She welcomes the opportunity to appropriately treat the mental health disorders associated with autism, such as anxiety and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, if needed.
